Reflections on Yesterday's Challenge:
How'd you go with yesterday's challenge: Sitting in Judgment. I must admit I did sit in judgment of the damn computer. I didn't save my work correctly and lost three paragraphs. In a hurry, I was. I just accepted it and moved on. As I went about my day, there was a few instances that made me stop and say to myself, "you just judged." One instance was when I was waiting for traffic at an suburban T intersection to go out onto the main road. There was a truck parked in the side road that was obstructing traffic. A car decided to round the corner and proceeded to stop behind the truck even though there was room for her to go around it, thus obstructing other cars wishing to enter the street. She wouldn't move. There was enough room behind her to fit one more car, so the next one joined in the parade heeding my view into the street in which I wanted to turn. Now I can't see a thing and edge my nose out onto the street. If the stupid bit...I said out aloud, my thoughts finished the rest in the next nanosecond "would move we can all go where we want to go". I immediately said out aloud after that," I just judged her." I didn't even know it was a her but failing to attempt to get around the truck was heeding the flow of traffic. Eventually, she got the courage to go around and traffic flowed again. Eventually, as the road was busy we all got to go where we were going. The second instance was my judgement that Abbey Lee Miller from Dance Mom's is an absolute cow ( I said other words). Oh, I just judged her. A family member chimed in that she was (concensus from the crowd!). I don't know the women and can only see how she is portrayed in the show. Another, yes there's a TV theme here was when I was watching the show, Pawnstars about a pawnshop in America. This guy came into the store to assist Rick, the owner into appraising a Chinese vase from the 1700's. I gaffed," Gawd look at him in crazy steampunk outfit, he looks like the Professor in Back to the Future" I stopped myself again and was conscious of my words, " I just judged him." He ended up being a very knowledgeable Professor of Ancient Antiquities. What right did I have to judge him and what he wears. Judgement comes in all shapes, surprises and disguises. Have a look at what you say and think before you make a judgement on someone else as you nor I have not walked in their shoes.
Today's Topic:
Noise from the internet, TV, radio, mobile phones, tablets, video games, dvd's........We are a plugged in society, ready to reach for a device to connect us to the world. I must admit, I'm on the computer a lot and if not then I'm checking my mobile device for emails, the news, my websites, FB pages, looking up something, reading blogs etc... Do you have quiet time when you are silent with just you and your mind? Do you stop being busy and concentrate on you? Yes, the world is a busy place and one that does forge ahead with or without us, but have you actually tuned out (lol) so to speak from the busy world for 24 hours? No TV, media, news etc.........I have when camping and when there's no network signal for maybe a maximum of 2 days, but I'm chaffing at the bit to get back on once I'm back in range. Isn't it fascinating to see people with their faces in a mobile device. It could be anywhere, a party, a train station, a bus stop, in the shopping centre, at dinner. The other day I watched a young boy walking down the street with an iPad in front of his face. I also once witnessed a man run into a pole and hit his man bits because he was reading a mobile device. It's always within easy reach for a browse through, some people have two, one for work and one for personal. It's never far from peoples hands. Oh except my mum, it's in her bag and she has a really old device and has no idea how to text, but she still uses the computer at least once a fortnight and watches tv most days. I suspect I'm being overtly sweeping in my writing, there are pockets of people who don't use media devices but I'm sure the majority of them would use the TV or radio, with a smaller ratio again not watching, listening, using media at all.
Our Challenge Today:
Your Feedback:
Choose a day, any day and go 12-24 hours without tv, the internet, your mobile device, multi media tablets, the newspaper, video games etc.......Get yourself a book or pursue your favourite hobby. Unplug. Turn off. Your family members do not have to partake unless they want to. Can you do it? I'm up for the challenge.
