How's you go with yesterday's challenge: What's your Reason? I actually caught myself out quite a lot. It was Australia Day here, time to celebrate all that it is to be Australian including a wonderous BBQ, good friends and ok just a little bit of alcohol. It's a amazing lesson when one starts to consciously listen to what one says and thinks. There were quite a few time I said to my dear friend S, there's another one.... I can't, I don't want too..., because of this..blah blah blah. Wow. Of course it's not at all negative, but just a revelation to mentally acknowledge the very words that possibly limit me. It was a eye opener to hear those words simply and seamlessly rolling off my tongue. It's also an epiphany to consciously accept how easy it is to act, think and talk without actively owning what comes into the mind or out of ones mouth. We do it all the time. Impulsively, if that's the right word, we just react. It doesn't mean we have to rule over our thoughts like a uptight monarch, but just be a little more attentive to the quality of our inner and outward vocabulary. How do you speak to yourself? If you listen carefully you just might be surprised.
Today's Topic:
What is happiness? We are told, we can create it, but what if today just doesn't feel that way? What if one is having the crappiest day ever (or so it feels) and the body and mind just don't want to embrace the gooey feelings that resonate with the word happiness. Have a think on this quote from Emmanuel Dagher, " My friend, Every day may not feel like a blessing, but there's always a blessing in every day. Isn't it amazing how one shift in perspective can change the way we experience everything?" My mum, bless her has always said, "Only you know", but she finishes that sentiment with, "It'll be ok. Everything is going to be alright." You know they're right, change the mind and find the happiness. Right?
Ha, such a simple word on a page, happiness. Out of curiosity, I found a 'formal' definition, " Enjoying, showing, or marked by pleasure, satisfaction, or joy." We know that in life, that is not the reality (or doesn't seem to be.) How could we simply be happy all the time? Yin Yang and all that malarkey. Is it possible that we could be a little bit happier? Is it possible we just expect that we won't be all the time and take that as a given? What if we choose instead to shift the mind, see life in a new perspective? Potentially if we stop worrying and start living each moment, happiness just might find us? Can we travel to happiness, own, earn, wear or consume it? Nope, it's a state of being and one that one may have to consciously work to attain. Even if you're having a crap day, just think back on Emmanuel's words, "there's always a blessing in every day." You can remain miserable, but the same amount of work goes into being happy. Your choice. Try it, it just might be today's blessing. It is possible to align your attention and focus on joy? Happiness is within your control. Will life be rainbows, unicorns and glitter after that? No way. There's pain in life. However, you can direct your awareness to different thoughts. This does not mean ignoring the negative difficult emotions and experiences as they too teach us lessons. Be mindful that what you're feeling is temporary and you're on an amazing journey. Change your mind. We always have choices. If you're not happy is it that you are putting your energy somewhere else? Watch how life starts to support you once you give yourself permission to take action and pluck up the courage to feel joy. Trust that everything is alright. Be kind to yourself. Find your blessing.

our challenge today:
Today concentrate on making yourself the most important person in your world. Treat yourself to some inner joy. How are you feeling? How can you change your thoughts to conjure up happiness. Today, when you have negative thoughts, say to yourself with conviction, everything is alright. I am in control. I can change my thoughts and my current perspective? Reality bites but it doesn't have to hurt. Try it.
