Reflections on Yesterday's Challenge:
How'd you go with yesterdays' challenge: Laughter is the Best Medicine? Did you get a good laugh? What did you do? I consciously sought opportunities to laugh and found plenty. Seek and ye shall find laughter in all sorts of situations and places. I got laughs from tv shows, my family and my cat. Today, I still seek to discover laughter in as many of it's guises as possible. Keep the momentum going.
Today's Topic:
The line dance like nobody is watching actually comes from a quote by William W. Purkey and it goes like this: " You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching, Love like you'll never be hurt, Sing like there's nobody listening, And live like it's heaven on earth.” Nice, I like it. So what does it mean? To me, it means let go of your self restraints, casting off the shadows, living an amazing life no matter what may hold us back, self confidence and less worrying. Regardless of what's happening in your world, you deserve joy. So that's what we're going to do today. Metaphorically and actually. Dance. Dance to your own tune. Believe that you are a gift. Everyone else around you is dancing to their own tune, so why not turn yours into a dance.
We are surrounded by the world at large. Here we are, you, me in this huge worldly population of xyz billion people. Each person going about their day, no thoughts, no actions alike. Can I dance like nobody is watching when potentially someone could be; judging, critiquing, observing, deciding, reacting? Essentially the main point is to we can choose to not care who is watching, have fun, be happy and positive, trust yourself and be yourself in front of others. It's living unselfconsciously in the joy of the moment, without inhibition or sense of anyone's judgement on you. As soon as you become aware of anyone else you stop dancing and start performing.
How do we do that though, when there are so many demands and expectations placed upon us. Some we can plainly see and others (like those mores from society), we just undertake unconsciously. The important skill required is confidence in who you are. The ability to accept that you are the most important person in your world. Give yourself permission to take pride in yourself. Dance like nobody is watching. Go about your day with a full fledged confidence hat on. At the end of the day, it only matters if you're happy by your own standards. If you find it hard then pretend you're a completely confident version of you; give it a go and see how you feel.
Our Challenge Today:
This challenge is in two parts:
1. The physical dance. Time for a bit of fun. Turn the radio on, play your favourite MP3, CD, maybe even download Songify or find a internet music streaming service. Whatever. Turn it up loud and dance for one song, even if people are in the room. Dance in the car on the way to or from somewhere. Let yourself go. Sing. Enjoy. Don't worry about what others think. Give it a go.
2. Where could you be more confident in you? Today, put your confidence hat on. Be aware as you go about your day where you lack confidence and mind talk to yourself in a positive manner asserting that you can do this. I am confident. Believe it and act upon it. Fake it until you make it. It will come with some practice.
Can I dance like nobody is watching?
Give it a go and see.
